response to your bullcrap quotation

"Tax dollars should not be wasted on art, music or theater classes in high school. Public high schools should be about training young people to enter the workforce. Period."

I'm going to put this as blatantly as possible; this is a load of crap. If there is one thing as essential to a society as its economic success, if not more so, it is culture. Our world and its numerous societies are given their individual "signatures" by what makes them culturally significant. Whether it be hollywood blockbusters for america, or the more contemporary artworks of Japan (or the east in general), these are what give cultures their individuality, and their inhabitants a way to enjoy life. People do not learn to master these arts late in life, they are learned within childhood and adolescence.

And when is a better time to learn this than in schooling.

School is not just a time to be prepared to get thrown into the workforce and slave away in a cubicle for 10 hours a day. School is a time for young minds to expand their horizons and learn how to eventually integrate within society. This isn't necessarily by becoming a wage slave, but by becoming a person who can give their talents to the world. This is something many acquire through the arts, and the government does recognize this via funding for museums and art exhibits.

The government typically is allotted with one goal in mind: To keep peace and prosperity within its nation. Art and culture is something which the government has recognized as important to a societies overall success, as I have already mentioned, so why is it that they can't fund the teaching of these mediums? If anything it is in the governments best interest to allow these to be taught within school systems not as a necessity, but as an outlet for students to grow and potentially find future success within a field of art.

So no, the government should spend its tax dollars on ensuring students have the ability to learn a field of creativity. I hate to be straightforward but if you think otherwise your stupid and uninformed. I am not sorry for saying so.
