Helnwein pt 2
My original suspicions were proven true, as the image was completely raw and not photoshopped. The image, as we know it now, is a close up shot of a little girl's face. She has a blank look on her face, signifying no discernible emotion and giving a atmosphere of innocence to her. I feel that there is no real hidden meaning behind the photo by itself, as knowing Helnwein's work, he tends to do a lot of work with people and faces. What's extremely interesting is that the image is of a massive scale but is in a location which is essentially hidden away in an industrial back alley. I think that this makes the name, "The Last Girl" very appropriate, because you would expect the last of something to be hard to find or hidden. I feel this really adds to the presentation of the piece, as it would not feel as special if it weren't shown in this way. The concept behind this photo was losing a lover. I feel this was conveyed well through the use of the two hands holding and the matching bracelets to show their connection in some form or fashion. As well, the one hand turning to dust shows that one side of the love or the person was lost in some way; furthermore, the sky in the background can symbolize the point of crossing over (heaven in a way), in which the person leaving is going to transition to.
